Trust is the most important element of any relationship, according to Richard Osborne.
Osborne, a Harvard-educated clinical psychologist who studied with Chris Argyris, has practiced since the 1980s. Part of his work has included helping couples deal with trust issues in their relationships.
Osborne says there’s no real difference between the role of trust in a business relationship and a personal relationship. Trust, he says, determines whether we choose to continue our involvement or to walk away from a relationship, be it business or personal.
“Trust develops through our personal observations and our experiences in interacting with an individual or group or organization,” says Osborne.
The most important element for building trust is being real and genuine. And this can’t be reduced to any specific action, he says.
