This month, I’m going to be posting some quick interviews with various experts and authors on the site. Recently, I asked our HSA/FSA Employee Benefit Plans expert, Bob Hopper, a few questions about the state of the industry. Bob owns Hopper Insurance Services, speaks nationally on the topic of the future of health insurance in America and conducts CE workshops for insurance agents and CPAs. Here's what he had to say.
ProducersWEB: What is your favorite thing about working in the industry?
Bob Hopper: Educating employers, employees and individuals about the tremendous value of HSAs.
PW: What is your least favorite thing?
BH: HR directors who can see the benefits, but have a long-term relationship with another agent and are not willing to change, even though it's costing the company lots of extra premiums.
PW: What do you think when you hear the words "universal health care"?
BH: Individual mandate and guaranteed issue, coupled with subsidies for those who cannot afford coverage.
PW: Do you think health insurance should be available to everyone, regardless of health history?
BH: We should offer insurance to everyone, if in exchange, we require all the healthy people who say out of the system to buy insurance. Insurance doesn't work correctly unless everyone is in the pool.
