A power of appointment can be given to a trust beneficiary to permit that beneficiary to direct the ultimate distribution of his or her trust share (should the beneficiary die before the complete distribution of his or her trust share). In other words, the beneficiary can be given the power to “rewrite” the trust. In the event the power is not exercised, the trust property will pass according to the terms of the trust.
