Washington, D.C. -
The Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) released the following statement from IRI President and CEO Cathy Weatherford after former Senator Ben Nelson was named as the next CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC):
"Senator Nelson has decades of experience and leadership working on insurance issues, and he possesses a deep understanding of the policy challenges we face regarding retirement security in America. Having personally served as the CEO of the NAIC for 12 years, I know that his knowledge of these issues, the insurance marketplace and its regulatory oversight mechanisms--at both the federal and state levels--will be a vital asset to state insurance commissioners, to market participants, and consumers. Senator Nelson's appointment to this post should be welcome news to all. We look forward to working with Senator Nelson, in his new role as chief executive of the NAIC, to maintain a vibrant insurance marketplace, and we welcome the opportunity to partner with him as we strive to address the retirement income challenges confronting Americans."
