Why I'm more proud than ever to be an American.

I come from a broken, lower middle class family. My mother left when I was 10 and my dad was a disengaged alcoholic who worked all the time.

My first child was born a month after I turned 17 and I dropped out of college after only two years. Based on those circumstances, I should be a failure. And if I was brought up in any other place in the world, I probably would be. But thankfully, I'm an American. I live in a land where opportunity abounds. A place where people who should be failures can go on to huge success and fruitful lives if they are willing to put in the work.

Thomas Edison has an incredible quote that I love: "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."

It's my opinion that far too many insurance professionals are missing the boat on the opportunity they have with their business because they are seduced by the lead companies. I mean, if you think about it, their message is no different than the "take a pill and lose weight" appeal from the weight loss industry back in the day.

All you've got to do is pay $10 or more a pop and you get emailed leads! Who wouldn't like that? No networking meetings, no mailers, no door knocking.

That was exactly what happened to me four years ago — I got seduced by the lead companies and it nearly tore down the office I had spent five years building. Thankfully, I figured out a way to beat them at their own game and it's certainly possible for you to do the same.

The opportunities to automatically prospect and market your agency affordably online are all over the place. You are just going to have to be willing to put in some work in the begging to get them set up and running optimally.

And trust me, when you do, it will be worth it's weight in gold!

This year, the fourth of July has really made me reflect on my country and what she has done for me — given me freedom and a better lifestyle than I deserve, all because of opportunity. That's why I'm more proud than ever to be an American.

If you are proud to be American too, let me know in the comment section below. And above all else, don't do your country a disservice by letting all of the opportunities she gives you slip through your fingers. That's the only way you can really be a failure in the USA.
