Washington, D.C. – April 12, 2013 -
The Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) and Corporate Insight today released a new report analyzing how financial services companies use new technologies to inform consumers. The study identifies online video content as an important tool to enhance consumer understanding of financial concepts and inform them about new products. The report also found that online interactive games are successful at engaging consumers and promoting financial literacy.
“In a world where social media commands an ever-increasing share of consumers’ attention and where online resources are easily accessible through mobile devices, it is imperative that the financial services industry understands how to employ these tools to engage and educate consumers,” said Cathy Weatherford, IRI President and CEO. “As we focus this week on promoting retirement planning and increasing consumer knowledge about important financial concepts, it is equally important that we study our own communications approaches, develop best practices, and improve engagement and consumer education strategies.”
The report was released as part of National Retirement Planning Week® 2013, a national effort to promote retirement planning. The week is organized by the National Retirement Planning Coalition, a group of prominent education, consumer advocacy and financial services organizations led by IRI.
