BALA CYNWYD, Pa., August 2, 2012 - Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY), a leading property and casualty insurance company for niche markets, announces the hiring of John Sherlock as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sam Garro as Vice President of Compliance. Both fill these leadership roles with more than 20 years of experience.

John Sherlock joins PHLY as Senior Vice President of Marketing. Mr. Sherlock will develop growth plans for PHLY’s top 20 agencies, manage executive relationships with global brokers, identify merger and acquisition opportunities, lead the launch of PHLY’s new E&S division and manage Valley Forge Insurance Brokerage (VFIB). He previously worked for Chartis as the President of the Mid-Atlantic Region. Prior to Chartis, Sherlock was a founding managing partner in a joint venture between the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and AIG. He holds his BS in Marketing & Finance from Drexel University.

Sam Garro will serve as Vice President of Compliance. Garro will lead the compliance, regulatory, and audit activities in PHLY’s Underwriting Department, including bureau reporting, product development, rate and form filings and producer licensing. Mr. Garro previously worked for OneBeacon as the Senior Manager of commercial compliance, product management and product development. He also worked as a Counsel to the Small Business Unit for OneBeacon. Garro received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and his law degree from Temple University. He is also a member of the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals (AICP) and received his CPCU designation in 1995.
