After having had a tremendous year last year, the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association (NRMLA) will be holding its Annual Meeting & Expo 2009 in San Diego, CA. The dates for the conference will be November 18-20.
The theme of the conference
The location for this year's conference is the elegant Manchester Grand Hyatt, which is located on the waterfront and provides a beautiful view of the whole area. The theme chosen for this year fits perfectly with both the view and the waterfront -- Navigating Change: Sailing Safely in a New Economy.
At the conference last year, 800 people had the privilege of learning how to grow their business and meet the challenges of the changing marketplace. This year promises to be even better, with a lineup of great speakers who have had many years in the reverse home mortgage industry.
This year's speakers
One speaker that knows reverse mortgages and the industry extremely well is David Stevens. He had the privilege of being selected to the position of Assistant Secretary for the Housing/Federal Housing Administration Commissioner. His background includes 26 years of industry experience working with mortgages, and with great companies like Freddie Mac, Long & Foster, World Savings and Wells Fargo.
Another speaker is Chuck Cross, who is with the Conference of State Bank Supervisors. He will be addressing the audience on the topic of issues relating to the SAFE Act. Cindy Fazio, who is presently serving as legal counsel in Washington State for the Division of Consumer Services at the Dept. of Financial Institutions, will be presenting information about the new reverse mortgage laws, and about how the new reverse mortgage exam guidelines are going to be implemented.
Other speakers will include Sandy Timmerman, who is with the Mature Market Institute, and Barb Stucki of the National Council on Aging (NCOA). These ladies will be presenting powerful information showing the role of how home equity can be used as part of the financial plan for seniors.
Special topics to be covered
Each year, the conference seeks to provide quality up-to-date information to help reverse mortgage brokers and lenders strengthen their businesses. Topics are selected that are of the greatest value to the industry, and always deal with current issues.
Each day of the conference focuses on a selected theme. On Wednesday, the theme is "Facing the Changes." On Thursday, the emphasis will be placed on "Improving Sales and Management," and on the last day, it will be on "A Time for Activism."
Altogether, there are many sessions available that cover a variety of the aspects of the day-to-day business of reverse mortgages and the industry. Here are some of the specific topics:
