2014 conference season is around the corner: Mark your calendars

By Vanessa De La Rosa

It may be March, but some of the biggest and best industry conferences are right around the corner. Between June and November of this year, there are several events for insurance and financial services professionals (in some great locations, no less) that you should mark on your calendar. Most of these events are already offering early registration, so why not get your summer and fall travel plans secured now?

Be sure to let us know what other industry events you’re looking forward to this year using the comments section below.

June 8-11: MDRT Annual Meeting at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto, Canada.

To attend the MDRT Annual Meeting, you must be an approved member. The event offers numerous well-known main platform speakers, as well as dozens of focus sessions, including sales strategies, social media insights, ideas on holistic financial planning, and much more. Other special programs include an ideas exchange session, a beer tasting, and a cruise and city tour. You pick and choose from their lively schedule.

June 11-13: NAFA Annuity Leadership Forum at The Liaison Capitol Hill, Washington, DC.

The NAFA Annuity Leadership forum is where industry leaders and experts from around the country help educate your representatives in Congress, as well as other key policymakers. NAFA and CapCity Advocates schedule personal meetings with key legislators for you. You will get up-to-date insight on tax policy, longevity annuities, the fiduciary standard, opportunities in the retirement income landscape, and the future of taxation.

On the event agenda are committee meetings, IMO roundtable meetings, "Fly-In for Fixed Annuities," and much more.

The sixth annual NAFA 2014 IMO Summit, led by NAFA's Insurance Marketing Advisory Committee (IMAC), is scheduled for October 15-17 in Phoenix, AZ. More details will be coming soon.

August 13-15: Advisor Network Summit at The Venetian, Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Advisor Network Summit is an event for life-health advisors and producers to network among their peers. The program will address and discuss the challenges many advisors are facing in the industry and in their practice. Key themes include: how to thrive in the dual-licensed world, how to market to women, what market strategies and products the new generation of retirees responds to, social media, best-selling products, trends, and more. You can find more about the summit here.

September 6-8: NAIFA Career Conference and Annual Meeting at the Manchester Grand Hyatt & Convention Center, San Diego, CA.

This year, the conference will be celebrating 125 years of NAIFA in San Diego, CA, and my guess is that it will be an extra special occasion. There will also be the NAIFA Expo, an industry tradeshow which highlights companies and organizations presenting the latest products and services in the industry. NAIFA will be announcing even more details about main stage speakers, workshop presentations and more accommodation details very soon. For now you can visit their conference website and watch their NAIFA 2014 promo video.

September 21-24: The Life Insurance Direct Marketing (LIDMA) Fall Meeting and Showcase at the Four Seasons Hotel, St. Louis, MO.

Attendance is available only to LIDMA members, and the meeting will include industry panel discussions, presentations from numerous industry experts, and many opportunities to network with other professionals. Keep your eye on their website for more information in the coming months.

September 28-30: Vision: IRI Annual Meeting 2014 at the Colonial Williamsburg Lodge, Williamsburg, VA.

The IRI Annual Meeting is an opportunity to meet and engage with IRI and industry peers. The meeting is the "leading conference for the insured retirement industry, where the industry's most influential CEOs, executives and senior decision makers will explore the dynamics of an ever-changing market." You will learn about the emerging trends and future of the industry.

October 19-21: ACLI Annual Conference 2014 at JW Marriott, Washington DC.

The ACLI Annual Conference will bring together senior executives from life insurance and financial service companies to examine the state of the industry and political issues. The event will include general sessions with expert speakers, breakout sessions addressing legal, investment, reinsurance, compliance, retirement security, advocacy, and legislative and regulatory issues.

October 26-28: 2014 LIMRA Annual Conference at the New York Marriott Marquis, New York, NY.

The LIMRA Annual Conference provides the platform to "hear perspectives from and participate in knowledge-sharing with industry executives on the latest issues and trends shaping the financial services competitive landscape." There will also be prospecting opportunities to meet C-level and senior executives from the insurance and financial services industries.

November 20-22: NAILBA Annual Meeting at the Westin Diplomat, Hollywood, FL.

The NAILBA Annual Meeting is an engaging event where you can learn new ideas for building and growing your business. NAILBA 33 will include enlightening speaker sessions, product updates, breakout workshops for the brokerage community, awards activities, networking sessions, a golf tournament and more.
