Washington's four investigations of the IRS scandal

    Capitol Hill aides spent their Memorial Day weekend scanning hundreds of pages of documents related to the IRS scandal in order to prepare their bosses for what will inevitably be a frantic month of June involving multiple simultaneous investigations into government wrongdoing. By the time lawmakers return to session next week, at least four different investigations will be underway. As The Daily Caller has reported, at least five different IRS offices including Cincinnati, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; Chicago, Illinois and El Monte and Laguna Niguel, California improperly targeted conservative nonprofit groups for extra scrutiny between 2010 and 2012.

When we think of the IRS, it doesn't bring us a joyous anticipation of the next great experience in life; in fact it might be the most despised government agency. The IRS now been exposed as being over the top. When you give people power over other peoples' lives, that power can be easily abused. As this story continues to unfold, it shouldn't be hard to imagine the potential abuse that can result over the IRS oversight of Obamacare funding. Our clients should be warned to hope for the best but plan for the worst. They only have one shot at retirement. Seminars should be an opportunity to remind people that taxation can be a retirement nightmare. Retirees beware, change is coming.
