Employers encouraged to advocate traffic safety

Traffic accidents are the top cause of work-related death, and the Minnesota Network of Employers for Traffic Safety is urging all employers to observe the national campaign Drive Safely Work Week between Oct. 1 and 5.
"Employers can make a difference," says Lisa Kons, coordinator of Minnesota NETS. "Whether people drive for work or simply to and from their jobs, it's important for organizations to make safe driving a top priority."
Kons also notes that 40 percent of lost work hours are due to traffic-related injuries, and motor vehicle crashes cost U.S. employers $60 billion each year. The Drive Safely Work Week campaign, which is organized by NETS, is focused on fundamental skills that contribute to being a safe driver.
Comprehensive, free distracted driving resources and tools along with awareness strategies and materials and sample policies for employers are available here. Minnesota NETS, the Minnesota Safety Council and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety are all in a partnership.
