New coalition fights health insurance tax
By Allison Bell
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Retail Federation and other big employer groups are helping carriers fight the new federal health insurance tax.
The employer groups are working with America’s Health Insurance Plans and the National Association of Health Underwriters to run the Affordable Coverage Project.
The coalition is running an ad campaign to spread the message that the “Health Insurance Tax Hurts.”
The coalition began running some ads online in August and its launching new ones in Washington and other markets this week.
The tax, part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, is expected to raise $8 billion next year. The revenue total could rise to about $14 billion by 2018.
