New York Life Foundation awards grant to TAPS

The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), a national organization that supports the families of America’s fallen military personnel, received a $325,000 grant from the New York Life Foundation. The grant supported TAPS’ bereavement services for adults and children at its 19th Annual National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp for Young Survivors held in Washington, D.C. over the Memorial Day weekend.
The Foundation’s funding will also support the child and teen programming at the TAPS National Military Suicide Survivor Seminar & Good Grief Camp being held Nov. 1-3 in Colorado Springs, Colo. This program supports families who are grieving the death by suicide of a loved one who served in the military.

The Life Insurance Direct Marketing Association (LIDMA) awarded Kris Tomasini, development manager of Term Sales for Transamerica, the 2013 LIDMA Vision Award.
The LIDMA Vision Award recognizes people and organizations that make substantial contributions to the advancement of the direct response segment of the life insurance industry. It is the highest honor that LIDMA can bestow on an individual or organization.
“Kris has been a true catalyst for change in the industry and has worked tirelessly to improve the customer experience and expand the availability of life insurance to underserved middle Americans,” said Andy Meehan, president of LIDMA. “Her unique ability to utilize the customer perspective as a compass in solving complex business problems is a core principal of LIDMA’s Process Improvement initiatives.”
American General Life Companies (American General) released AG Accident Choice Plus, an insurance product that provides benefits, regardless of other health coverage, for a range of emergency medical costs related to accidental injuries. Available riders offer coverage in the event of critical illness, accidental death and dismemberment, and inability to work due to an accidental injury.
The highlights of AG Accident Choice Plus include:
- No coordination with major medical insurance;
- Dollar-for-dollar reimbursement up to the policy amount for covered medical expenses;
- No network restrictions;
- No lifetime limit;
- Critical illness, accidental death, accidental disability income, and disability riders .
Clients can choose accident coverage in benefit amounts of $5,000 to $25,000 (in $5,000 increments), with three options of annual deductible ($100, $300 or $500).

DentalPlans.com named Craig Martin as vice president of business development and a key member of the company’s strategic growth and development team.
In this new role, Martin will be responsible for additional channels of distribution for the company, driving new memberships while cultivating relationships and managing DentalPlans.com’s Broker, Group and Network Relations departments.
Martin comes to DentalPlans.com with over 20 years of expertise in benefits consulting and group underwriting. His most recent role was with CONEXIS Administrators where he was responsible for national account sales of COBRA, FSA, HRA, HSA, and retiree exchange and commuter benefits. Prior to CONEXIS, Martin was regional vice president of Sales at United Concordia. He also worked at Mutual of Omaha and Lockton.
Martin holds a degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Business Management and Economics and has earned the designations of Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) and Managed Healthcare Professional (MHP).
The San Diego Business Journal presented George DeVries, co-founder, chairman and CEO of American Specialty Health Incorporated (ASH), with the "Lifetime Achievement Award" for his career-long dedication to his company's focus on health and wellness.
