Raleigh, North Carolina-Based Solo Practitioner Sworn In, Plans to Represent Clients Before the U.S. Supreme Court in Veterans Claims
RALEIGH, NC – January 2, 2012 – The Law Offices of Mary Markovich, PA, a leading provider of legal and law-related services for veterans, retirees, persons with disabilities and their families, today announced that Mary Markovich was sworn in and admitted to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday, November 14, 2011. In solo practice since 1994, Ms. Markovich is accredited by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and was previously admitted to practice law before the United States Federal Court, Eastern District of North Carolina and in the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
“The swearing in ceremony, witnessed by the nine Justices and administered by Supreme Court Justice, John G. Roberts, was a special event that was memorable for my entire family,” said Markovich. “Justices Scalia, Ginsberg, and Sotomayor each took the time to meet with the attorneys and their guests, giving advice on practicing before the Court.”
Members of the Markovich family have served in the Armed Forces ever since they emigrated to the U.S. from Germany in 1840. A service-connected disability case faced by a family member who served in Kuwait prompted Ms. Markovich to pursue VA Accreditation. Since becoming accredited, Ms. Markovich has been training fellow attorneys and other professionals about VA Benefits through her webinars, Continuing Legal Education classes, boot camps, and seminars.
“It is my privilege to assist veterans in receiving the VA benefits they have earned by protecting, defending, and preserving
the ideals that define the United States,” added Markovich. “There are twenty-two million living American Veterans today and very few attorneys and agents accredited to assist them through the Appeals process. By being admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, I can help our Veterans appeal their cases all the way to the highest court in the land.”
Mary M. Markovich received her undergraduate degree in Accounting from Mount Olive College in Mount Olive, North Carolina, her law degree at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, and her Financial Planning training and Decision Sciences training while earning a Masters of Business Administration at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Ms. Markovich has been a guest lecturer at Duke University and is a frequent speaker at educational, fraternal, and social organizations. She teaches Estate Planning and Elder Law classes to her fellow attorneys and other professionals in continuing education classes.
Ms. Markovich is also a member of the LexisNexis Firm Manager™ Advisory Board — a collection of practicing attorneys, thought leaders and technologists focused on meeting the evolving practice management needs of solo practitioners and small firms.
