Many consumers believe they either won’t have an extended care scenario or they’ll self-insure. But private funding rarely works out in the real world. There are charitable organizations and community resources like Meals on Wheels that assist seniors who need help. But many seniors have their children taking care of them out of their own finances. Surprisingly few have long-term care insurance. Many seniors are depending on government programs like Medicare, Medicaid and veterans’ benefits just to get by.
