There are over 26,000 U.S. defined benefit plans, with some shortfalls and others with dire deficits. Many plan administrators are freezing these plans to reduce their under funded exposure and ongoing liabilities. On the structured settlement front, there appears to be an ever-increasing need for structured payments based on court judgments, i.e. annuities. The news here is that this market has gone mainstream and now is accessible to advisors. Defined benefit plan expert Steve Pilger is interviewed in this video blog.
