Some of the biggest life insurance companies have staggering, almost unbelievable business in force, in the trillions. Some carriers’ surplus and asset valuation reserve numbers are larger than the lower third of all American carriers. But the real stunner for Steve and Ken was the five-year average investment yield of John Hancock at 10.62 percent, with the second place carrier at 7.82 percent and rest of the field below 7 percent for the reporting year of 2012.
