The price per barrel for oil this morning surpassed $81 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

After having risen as high as $81.76 a barrel in early morning trading, the cost of crude for September delivery hovered near $81.46 by noon.

This follows a rise of 2.2 percent on Friday, due in part to concerns related to the value of the dollar falling near a 15-year low against the yen.
