Executive pay remained relatively flat in 2009, according to SNL Financial's 2010 Executive Compensation Review.

The report found that the average CEO base salary in the industry fell 0.86 percent. Meanwhile, multiline and property/casualty CEOs saw base salary increases of 5.81 percent and 4.26 percent respectively; while life/health and managed care CEOs saw declines of 16.21 percent and 12.21 percent.

However, the report also noted that base salary is just a small component of overall compensations, averaging just 20.53 percent in 2009.
