Long term care insurance benefits soon will be available to the same-sex domestic partners of federal employees, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

As of July, same-sex couples will be able to register for the Federal Long term Care Insurance Program at www.ltcfeds.com. The benefit is not being extended to opposite-sex domestic partners, however, since they can obtain the benefit through marriage.

Finally, this is significant news for federal employees, such as U.S. Postal Service employees, active and retired members of the uniformed services, and their qualified relatives.
