Two Congressional Republicans are questioning the overdue status of a federal report on federal Medicaid
Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-UT and Rep. Fred Upton, R-MI, sent a letter
to Health and Human Secretary Kathleen Sebelius asking about a report on Medicaid spending that was due Jan. 1, 2012.
The letter cited figures predicting that Medicaid spending
will reach $4.4 trillion over the next decade and said Medicaid’s share as a percentage of the U.S. economy is expected to expand by 35 percent.
"These statistics are alarming and unsustainable, especially given Washington's record debt and deficit levels and the increasing burden on states to sustain their Medicaid programs," the letter said. “As we consider ways to address these challenges, it is essential to understand the underlying Medicaid spending trends and enrollment patterns."
