Aviva chief executive officer resigned after shareholders voted against the company’s plans for executive pay and bonuses, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

Aviva did not explain why CEO Andrew Moss decided to step down. John McFarlane, chairman-designate, will step in as interim CEO.

At Aviva’s annual general meeting, held a week ago, 823 million votes were submitted against the executive pay plan, while 670 million were in favor of the plan.
