Housing starts climbed 1.7 percent between June and July -- having last month risen to a seasonally adjusted, annual rate of 546,000, the Department of Commerce reports.
This figure is compared with estimates of a rate of 555,000, according to economists surveyed by Briefing.com.
And finally, this means that, in the year-over-year period examined, new home construction has declined 7 percent.
