The property and casualty insurance industry again edged out life and health insurers in a customer satisfaction survey, despite a drop in overall satisfaction.
According to the quarterly American Customer Satisfaction Index, P&C insurers fell one point to 80 in 2009, while life insurers' score climbed one point to 79. Meanwhile, health insurers garnered a score of 75, up two points from the previous year's score.
Among P&C insurers, State Farm ranked highest, climbing two points to 82. GEICO came in second at 81 points; followed by Progressive at 80 points; and Farmers at 78 points.
The decline in overall satisfaction with P&C insurance was attributed to the continuing challenge that small insurers face when attempting to provide rates similar to those of larger competitors.
