Thankful for self-reliance

Thanksgiving is the traditional time for Americans to give thanks, for the many blessings we have received, on an individual and national level.
America is truly exceptional. Our country is unique in the opportunities that it makes available. The American dream is about ordinary people who, with eyes wide open, seize upon these opportunities and work hard for financial freedom, for themselves and their loved ones.
Once gained, financial freedom needs to be protected. But freedom is not to be found by placing our spouses, our children and our parents at the mercy of a government "safety net" which does not have individual interests at heart.
Protection is found in self-reliance.
Consumers can purchase a life insurance product that is designed to meet individual needs and family budgets. We can make sure our loved ones, our businesses and our estates are sufficiently provided for in the manner we direct.
Self-reliance is at the very core of the life insurance industry, which has done a commendable job of imposing and enforcing standards for conduct. For example, brokers must complete continuing education coursework to retain their license, and ethics are a key component of that curriculum. The industry has also taken responsibility for its own shortcomings and has taken proactive measures to make sure carriers remain financially viable.
The life insurance industry is a shining example of the America our forefathers dreamed about. Here, entrepreneurs can build a successful business and achieve self-reliance through helping others find peace of mind and financial freedom too.
This is an opportunity for which I am thankful, every single day.
